The third successful year of Midfest kicked off on Friday the 4th of September. With this year’s festivities consisting of music, art, exhibitions, storytelling walks and heritage celebrations. 

The events are being held in a number of local venues all across Midlothian. Including Dalkeith, Penicuik, Roslin and Newtongrange.

Opening this year’s Midfest was the Battle of the Bands Final. Each of the four remaining acts competing to open the Midstock Festival on Saturday 12th September.

Events to watch out for at this year’s Midfest include:

  • Dark and Deadly Dalkeith, a night time guided historical tour visiting the dingy past of Dalkeith.
  • The Penicuik’s Festival Concert showcasing local talent Siobhan Miller accompanied by Aaron Jones
  • Edinburgh Flagstaff performing at the National Mining Museum in Newtongrange
  • Purple Thread Studio in Roslin with a free exhibition of textile arts and crafts

 

This year’s Midfest also incorporates the opening of the Borders Railway. With several successful Golden Ticket and free community events held on the 5th of September at Newtongrange, Gorebridge, Shawfair and Birkenside Park. Involving over 5000 local residents. With Her Majesty the Queen officiating the opening of the railway at Newtongrange on Wednesday the 9th of September.

Midstock Festival is back for its second year on Saturday 12th September. With 11 acts playing throughout the day. Including headliners The Fratellis, Fish and the Hoosiers.

Finally Midfest 2015 will conclude with the fantastic Family Fun Day. Happening on September 13th at Dalkeith Country Park. It will incorporate a variety of entertainment including bands, stalls, fairground attractions plus the Community Safety Village.  With plenty of activities on offer to entertain the whole family.
