Geoff is married to Sharon; they have three children, two boys and a girl.
Their first granddaughter was born in January 2007, their second arrived in May 2009 along with two cats, Geoff is still hoping for his Labrador puppy to complete his ideal family group, Sharon is not so sure though.
After moving to Edinburgh from his beloved Hawick in 1968 (he still has a HUGE passion for all things to do with the Borders, including the Waverley railway restoration) When he was young he used to listen to the radio, a lot of radio, including the offshore and internationals like Luxy on 208 and others not often mentioned like Radio Sweden International and Radio Finland’s English language service and used to laugh at Radio Moscow when it was run by the communist regime, well the telly shut down at half past midnight.
Radio is a very intimate thing and very personal so Geoff tries to keep it that way so call or E-mail him at the studio, he tries to reply to all his E-mails.
Geoff is still broadcasting on the Mid Morning slot from 10am till 1pm, he is the only original member of the daytime broadcast team from the very first day we went on air “LIVE” in Late May 2007 and is also part of the Late and Early show that is broadcast on Fridays late, from 11pm till very early Saturday Mornings at 3am, which has also had studio guests and incorporated some live sets from the likes of Mr Roy Henderson and Newtongrange’s own Becca Fox and others from as far afield as Selkirk.
When asked, “Where do you see Black Diamond FM in the future”? Geoff responded, “Well judging by the response we get from listeners (and we really love to hear from you,) we are doing much better than I first thought. Getting folk to tune to your community station from another takes a lot of doing and we are doing it quite well, the response that I get on Midmorning is brilliant and I thank you. After three years on still air, we must be doing something right, maybe we’ll be here for a long, long time.”
Do you want to take part in any of his programmes?
Just E-mail the studio when he’s on air and join in with listeners from far afield as Los Angeles California, Toronto Canada, Stuttgart Germany, British Columbia, Sydney, who apparently lives in Australia! Prestonpans in East Lothian and Portobello in Edinburgh, to name but a few.
Geoff’s musical tastes range from Beethoven, the worlds’ greatest composer, ever, to Ennio Morricone to Stevie Wonder and all points in between as long as it sounds good he says and goes on, “Music should have no boundaries and anything goes in my mind”.
Also got something to discuss? Call him, he might even put you on air.
You can catch Geoff most weekdays between 10am and 1pm.
