Steven Horsburgh

Meet the Chairman

Steven works in the retail sector day to day in the real world, however he has been known to put his headphones on to entertain the dance floors of Midlothian and Edinburgh in his younger days. Steven has taken his next step in the entertainment world and regularly presents on Black Diamond FM. As far back as when he was nine or ten years old, he would make up radio programmes on his karaoke machine and look for an excuse for anybody to listen to him.

Now in his forties, we let him loose mostly on The Deck Room every Saturday night from 10pm, and occasionally on his favourite slot doing the Breakfast Show to wake you up as much as he is after 5 cups of coffee.

Steven has been on the Board and a Director of Midlothian Community Media Association, the charity that runs Black Diamond FM, since 2013. He is the current Chairman meaning less time for the fun side of radio but in his words "its important work".

Q: When did you join Black Diamond FM?

A: My employer sent me to do a day in the community one wet January in 2008. On my way home from work I heard Black Diamond FM in the car and was quite surprised to hear they were a community radio station run by volunteers of Midlothian where I live. I went up to spend a day with them as this was within my interests as well as a great cause and they haven’t sent me home yet.

Q: What kind of music do you like?

A: Couldn’t narrow it down to one. Dance chart and pop and anything with a good beat to it from the 70s to today's music.

Q: If you could have a dinner party who would your guests be?

A: Dell boy and Rodney and the whole cast of Only Fools and Horses. I’ve got all the DVDs and all the specials downloaded to my tablet and scarily the first ever Only Fools and Horses was aired on the day I was born. What a great day for the entertainment world! Ha ha ha.

Q: What would you do if you won the lottery?

A: I’ll be quite shocked as I never buy a ticket, although Justyna will be quite happy.

Q: Any other interests?

A: I love going on holiday but hate trekking around when it’s too hot. Got to be a relaxing one.
