EIFF: Set Fire To The Stars, Review

todayJune 23, 2014

Background

I’ve never been big on poetry, I’ll admit that now before you read on and spot it for yourself.

*Spoiler alert* (not really) ‘Set Fire To The Stars’ is about two poets. Shot in rather arty black and white the film follows John Malcolm Brinnin (Elijah Wood) as he try’s to keep control of fellow poet Dylan Thomas (Celyn Jones) ahead of a massive US tour.

Both of the central performances in this film are fantastic, although much of the characters back-story is missing and reliant on you knowing it already.

It’s 1950’s setting is completed rather well with the soundtrack and the afore mentioned black and white.

‘Set Fire To The Stars’ has its world premiere at this years Edinburgh International Film Festival on Monday the 23rd of June with a second screening the next day. For tickets visit www.edfilmfest.org.uk
