John DeNicola, Interview

You may not of heard the name John DeNicola but you will have definitely heard at least one of his songs.

Along with songwriting partner Franke Previte he wrote “Hungry Eyes” and “Time of My Life” both selected for the 1987 movie Dirty Dancing and its soundtrack, which held the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart for 18 weeks and ultimately sold more than 60 million copies worldwide.

“TOML” netted DeNicola both an Oscar and a Golden Globe, as well as a Grammy nomination; in 1988 he was named the ASCAP Songwriter of the Year.

His debut album 'The Why Because' is a collection comprised largely of DeNicola originals where he finally get the chance to put his stamp on songs you will already be familiar with.

In the interview we chat about the songwriting process, and revisiting recordings and tracks with fresh eyes (and ears)
